Earth Hour will take place between 8-9pm on 28th March

On 29th March, between 8 and 9pm, cities all over the world will be switching their lights off in support of Earth Hour 2008, the largest voluntary power down in history. Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.

Sue says; "Earth Hour is an international campaign that will roll through 14 time zones, starting in New Zealand and ending in the Pacific Time Zone. Over 25 cities have already signed up and I would really love to see people in Guildford taking part in this important event."

She adds; "Significant landmarks around the world will be switching off including Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge and all Dublin City buildings. Even McDonald's in Australia has committed to turning off its Golden Arches nationally!

"It is up to us all to do what we can to reduce our CO2 emissions. Through this one simple action we can deliver a powerful message about the need for action.

"Turning off your lights for one hour at 8pm on 29 March 2008 is the first part of getting involved in Earth Hour. The second part involves making a difference by making energy savings every day.

"Taking action isn't difficult and can be as simple as turning off a mobile phone charger when it is not in use, switching off the television or CD player at the wall rather than leaving it on stand-by, turning off unused lights or making sure office and home computers are completely shut down."
